TV graveyard

TV graveyard
Originally uploaded by MrsEds

As Christmas approaches and people decide to treat themselves, I guess we'll start see the sad sight of old TVs dragging themselves to the great TV graveyard in the street, where you will find the worn out shells and circuitry of old televisions reminding us all of our fate once we are no longer useful...

The Guardian reports that following the digital switch over in the north west of England there has been a sharp rise in the number of TVs thrown away, many of which could have been converted using a set top box

Figures from Cumbria county council, which administers a region of nearly half a million people, show that the number of TVs dumped at waste and recycling sites has risen by 70% in the past year. This year, the council has recycled 50,000 analogue TVs thrown away by households, of which 30,000 could have been upgraded to receive digital TV signals with a simple £20 set-top box.

The question is posed as to whether the same thing will happen here in London when the digital switchover completes in 2012.

My question is how many of those TVs will end up smashed up in the Harringay Passage?
