Harringay weekly photo #9 :School photo

This picture was taken in my daughter's infant school hall. One of the things I really love about the school is the layers of the past that you see when you walk around.
The school was once a girl's school and you can still see the names of the house captains up on the walls.
What many modern state schools lack is that sense of continuity, the link to the past and the community it served (unlike private schools where you breathe history from the moment you set foot in them).

What I like about Haringey's approach is the preservation of the Victorian buildings and no urge to knock it down to make some characterless, airless box to educate the kids in.
