New TV for Christmas?

New TV for Christmas?

As Christmas fast approaches and there is much to be done, I have had little time to spare for my urban warrior work. However one thing has struck me recently.
The number of TVs suddenly abandoned on the streets.
Of course! This is the time of year that people upgrade. A new flat screen in time for all the Christmas goodies on telly over Christmas.
So what do they do with the TVs? Ring up the council and get them taken away for FREE? Nah, leave 'em in the street, where they get kicked around, smashed up and glass.metal become dangerous to just about everyone; small children, partially sighted/blind people , dogs.
I once came across two elderly people smashing a TV up in the street. They spoke no English so did not understand my ranting at them but evnetually sidled off. However, throwing open the question to the anti fly tipping posse as to why, they produced the answer that the people were after valuable copper wire and probably in danger of blowing themselves up in the process.
Just don't assume its the poor bloody kids wrecking these things, more likely a pair of oldies who look like butter wouldn't melt.

My suggestion to the council is that there is a big campaign just before Christmas, recognising that there may be a lot of 'upgrading', maybe from the start of December to advertise widely what to do with discarded white and electrical goods with a big phone number right next to the word FREE. Can't hurt...
