The landlady and the mattresses
Originally uploaded by MrsEds
On Thursday night, I spent time at a residents group meeting urging an officer from the council to engage more with landlords, as I firmly believe that many of our dumping and fly tipping problems stem from a lack of engagement with them.
On my street, these mattresses appear and a 'fearless' neighbour goes to have a word with the landlady.
First of all , she claims she was told by the council to leave them on the street. Hmmm
Neighbour explains this could not be the case.
She agrees to put them back in the garden and neighbour explains that they will be collected but here's the catch, it costs money. Even as he is explaining this, they both know she won't be exploring this avenue and indeed why should she when everyone knows that they will be collected for nothing if you just dump 'em.
We have got to start talking to the landlords/ladies of Haringey about their management of waste generated by their tenants and using both incentive and enforcement to change attitudes.
