When my little Nikon Coolpix gasped its last in a forest in France, I was bereft but with my typical shallowness, I quickly fell head over heels in love with my new Canon Ixus, the size of a cigarette packet which fits neatly into my top pocket when I'm out and about.
Having practiced by taking pictures of Mr E's plums
and endless close ups of the nipperette, whose delight in posing for pictures makes me wonder if her destiny in life is to be a weekly fixture in the pages of Heat magazine, I was ready to stalk the streets of Harringay in search of litter. Yet so besotted was I in that first week with my new love that I could not resist turning it on all the lovely things of Harringay, like the detail on a Ladder House
It wasn't long however before I did the buggy challenge up Wightman Road and the over full bins caught my eye
Oh no! The holiday mood was wearing off and now as I drew my camera from my shopping bag it was to capture this pile of nastiness in Cavendish Road.
Back home I logged on, uploaded the photos and fired up the report a problem page on the Haringey website. That afternoon I received a phone call from my 'contact ' N at HQ. "Where have you been?", she asked, "we've missed you!" It really comes to something when you've formed a friendship over the phone with a call centre operative at Accord because you spend half of most mornings emailing in problems.
And then came the strike. This morning to the amusement and bemusement of passers by, the nipperette, the baby and I wandered among the cans, cardboard boxes and commercial waste covering the pavement, snapping shots. Nipperette, now thoroughly indoctrinated yelled, "Look more bin bags Mummy!" and nodded sagely as I deplored the dumping of a bed at the top of Kimberley Gardens,
But you know Harringay is still a great place and I couldn't resist the charm of this melon holder...
If you see me, say cheese!
